Google Play Books store – an online store for purchasing books for your Android device ala Kindle or Apple iBooks has just been made official for the Indian markets. Announced today, you will now be able to download books from the huge Google library, but you will have to pay based on the pricing of the book. The base price of a book we found was starting from Rs. 50 omward.

Android users in India had to depend upon Kindle or other third-party apps to read books on their phones or tablets. But earlier today Google launched its Play Books store in India, which is available on Android and iOS smartphones and tablets apart from PCs and Macs. Just like the global version, Google Play Books in India gives you access to a huge database of books from all around the world. Though the app is available for free, a user will have to buy individual books from inside the app. Once you’ve bought a book, it will be available on your PC, tablet and phone for you to read.

Google Play Books carries over 4 million titles in every imaginable category, comprising the world’s largest selection of ebooks. Purchased books are stored in the cloud and are available for both online and offline viewing either through a web browser or in the official apps for Android and iOS.

Google Play Books are currently available in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Japan, Italy, Germany, Spain, France, South Korea, Brazil and Russia. And now the company has made it official in India.
