Asus Memo Pad 7 is official

Asus today announced the MeMo Pad 7 to answer Acer’s Iconia B1 amid rumors that it is working on a refresh of the Nexus 7 with Google that would sport a 7-inch HD display. Like Acer, Asus has stripped down the hardware to make it possible to be priced competitively.

Asus Memo Pad 7 Details

For the Asus Memo Pad the company opted for a Via single-core processor clocked at 1GHz while Acer opted for a 1.2GHz dual-core Mediatek processor. However, like the Nexus 7, it comes with 1GB of RAM but a slightly lower resolution 1024×600 pixel display.

The MeMo Pad 7 comes in 8GB and 16GB variants but will only have Wi-Fi connectivity with no 3G option. Earlier rumors have indicated it will be priced at $149. Other features of the MeMO Pad 7 include a 1-megapixel front facing camera and a microSD card slot. It comes with the same 4,325 mAh battery as the Nexus 7 and claims to provide up to 7 hours of usage. It runs on Android Jelly Bean 4.1.

The company has even released a video advertisement for the same, here is the video -

Asus Memo Pad 7 – Our Take

With Asus launching the Memo Pad 7, we somehow think the company has created a competitor between its original Google based product – the Nexus 7 and the new Memo Pad 7. The company has taken steps to differentiate both the products, but we are seriously concerned as the Nexus 7 is selling in India for a whopping Rs. 20,000 whereas the Asus Memo Pad 7 may be priced just under Rs. 8000 bracket.

Anyways we will be able to tell more about the new budget friendly tablet once it is released in India, in meanwhile, we have also told you about the elder sibling to the Asus Memo Pad 7 – the Asus Memo Pad 10, a 10 inch tablet which may be priced at around $399 in the global markets.
