Blackberry 10 – RIM to launch Music Store in India

Blackberry 10 release is just few days away and RIM seems to be pulling out all stops to make a smoother release for the new mobile platform. In the latest, RIM after re-christening the old App World to new Blackberry World, the company has also announced its intention to feature new movies and music in the new Blackberry World.

But don’t get your hopes too high as the company has announced that movie rentals and downloads will only be available in the US, UK and Canada currently, RIM will offer its music store in 18 countries, including India.

RIM says it has agreements for DRM-free music with major and independent music labels like 4AD Records, Domino Recording Company, finetunes, Matador Records, [PIAS] Entertainment Group, Rough Trade Records, Sony Music Entertainment, The Orchard, Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, XL Recordings and Zebralution. The music store will be available in Canada, USA, UK, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, South Africa, Spain, Australia, India, Malaysia, New Zealand and Singapore.

Though there are no details about the pricing, but fret not as we will have all the details of the same as Blackberry 10 is officially unveiled to the world on January 31, 2013.

BlackBerry 10 is an upcoming proprietary mobile operating system, developed by Research In Motion for its BlackBerry line of smartphone and tablet handheld devices. It is based on QNX which was acquired by RIM in April 2010. The platform was originally called BBX but this was changed when RIM was blocked from using the BBX trademark after legal action from BASIS International, who already uses it for their software. The RIM CEO, Thorsten Heins, has said that the company is considering licensing BlackBerry 10 to other OEMs. BB10 smartphones are scheduled to be released in Q1 of 2013. On the 12 November, 2012, RIM CEO Thorsten Heins announced a January 30, 2013 launch of the Blackberry 10 system .

First wave of devices running on the new platform that will be unveiled in February 2013, if the reports are believed to be true, are the all touch Blackberry Z10 and the QWERTY based X10.

More and more details are emerging for the new Blackberry 10 platform, as the d-day nears. We have already seen leaked images of the first Blackberry 10 device in Blackberry Z10 and the new desktop software, aptly called Blackberry Link. All the details and features will be more clearer once RIM officially unveils the new Blackberry 10 platform to the world.
